It is surprising how often entire projects are presented without the slightest appraisal of what is in place before the project is done. Yet acknowledging the the endless complexity embedded even in the poorest urban setting and respecting what is already in place are key ingredients for any good urban project.
The first step is therefore to represent in detail the existing city and to learn from it.
