This strategy group based their recommendations on the tunnelling of the M8 and connecting Clydeside Expressway. By tunneling the M8 but retaining it’s original route, the beneficial network connections that the motorway has with the City are retained while countless new benefits are obtained as the Urban Tissue at ground level can be united.
The incorporation of a new rail line within the tunnel brings the benefits of tunneling the motorway beyond the immediate effects of removing the motorway from the regular Urban Tissue.
